The tools are fine. We're the problem.
Why do so many digital campaigns fail in parliament? Former political tech insider Keira Roth reveals what MPs' teams actually see and how to build real political influence.
For over a decade, I sold political technology — tools like the ones you're using here today. Then at the 2024 election, I found a number of my peers - including my husband - became MPs. I watched from inside a parliamentary office as campaigns landed on the other end.
We're wasting potential and it's damaging democracy.
That's why I've spent a chunk of this year interviewing MPs, parliamentary researchers and campaigners about the gap between what this technology can do and how it's actually being used. Parliamentary staff — the people who get things in front of decision-makers — are being treated as an afterthought. Campaigns are often timed badly, targeted bluntly and sent to MPs with little ability to act on the ask; I'll introduce you to the Sphere of Political Influence and how you can use it to run better, more effective campaigns.
