In this interactive session, Paul Hayward explores what fundraisers can learn by looking beyond their own markets. Drawing on experience working across the UK, Europe, the USA and Canada, the session highlights how different fundraising cultures excel in different areas - from the UK’s mastery of regular giving and legacies, to Europe’s focus on trust and optimisation, to North America’s strength in storytelling, mobilisation and integrated engagement.

Through real-world case studies and honest reflections on what works (and what doesn’t), the session tackles the big questions fundraisers are asking right now: How do we engage younger audiences? What comes after Facebook? And what kind of supporter journeys actually build long-term loyalty?

The session combines practical insight with facilitated exercises that encourage participants to share what works in their own markets, borrow ideas from others, and rethink outdated beliefs. Attendees will leave with fresh perspectives, concrete ideas they can adapt immediately, and renewed confidence to experiment, test and innovate - borrowing globally while acting locally.
